The Mermaid of Padstow @ Jubilee Pool

September 3 @ 7:30 pm 8:30 pm

The story of a mermaid, a man, and a dangerous stretch of sand off the Cornish coast. A brand-new adaptation of the classic Cornish folktale, with poetry, live music and beer.

Gareth Cooper is an actor, writer, comedian, composer and musician and has worked in theatre, TV, radio, film, podcasts, commercials and web series. In the 17 years he’s been doing all this, he’s written and performed with critically-acclaimed, award-winning comedy group, Delete the Banjax, co-adapted a best-selling children’s book for theatre, released several albums, toured theatres around the UK, taken a lot of shows to Edinburgh Fringe, written songs for Thomas the Tank Engine, and even found the time to write a West End musical.

Studying for an MA in Creative Enterprise at the University of Reading, Cornish-born Gareth wanted to draw inspiration from Cornish folklore for his final project and came across the legend of the famous Doombar of Padstow. Fascinated by this unique tale of mermaids, men and magic, he adapted it into “The Mermaid of Padstow”, using the strong Celtic traditions of storytelling, folk music and beer!
