Closure Update – May 2020

Since we were last in touch, we have been working hard to determine our short to medium term prospects and identify what we can do to help mitigate the impact of this period of unprecedented uncertainty.

In common with the whole hospitality/leisure sector, our business is seasonal and heavily dependent upon summer tourism. About the only thing which is clear at the moment is that whatever summer 2020 turns out to be, it’s not going to be anything like we expected!

For the time being, our primary aim is to ensure that Jubilee Pool survives this crisis and comes out of it ready for another 85 years serving local people and visitors.  You invested to create that and it is our duty to protect it and keep it fit for purpose.

Having said that, we also want to get back to business as soon as we are able, as long as it’s safe to do so.  We have been exploring all options and are cautiously optimistic that we will be able to offer some limited opening of either or both the pool facilities and café during the course of this summer. Right now, what that will be remains to be resolved pending Government guidance and advice.

The biggest challenge is finances. Having suffered the impact of last year’s delays to the geothermal launch, our resources were already depleted. However, having benefited from the Government’s Small Business Rate Relief and Staff Retention (furloughing) Scheme and with the support of our funders, we remain optimistic that we will be able to emerge relatively unscathed as we progress towards the “new normal”.

On a more positive note, the capital project is nearing completion with the geo-pool power scheduled for a mid-July switch on……ready and waiting for the day we can open the gates again!

As ever, the team at Jubilee Pool has worked incredibly hard over the past weeks and demonstrated commendable commitment.
